For one reason or another, these are my personal favourite photos! Years ago this was simply a place to show off my better images. Now I feel like it has become more of a collection that defines major momments in my photographic career; Including moments of learning, understanding and life experiences. I hope you enjoy them.
Adult Peregrine Falcon - Niagara Falls, Ontario
June 10, 2006
Photographing Peregrine Falcons at Niagara Falls is easily one of my favourite destinations. As you may have noticed from the title of this website, they are my favourite species and often very cooperative at this location. My parents and I have spent many days there, seeing lots of incredible things! Not to mention the frequent humorous encounters with tourists...
Adult Ivory Gull - Goose Cove, Newfoundland
February 19, 2010
A two month trip to Newfoundland in 2010 ended with a "dream come true" experience with Ivory Gulls and Gyrfalcons on the northern peninsula of the province. This image ended up being my favourite of 8000 taken that week, capturing the beauty of the bird and the snow covered cliffs reaching into the cold Atlantic waters.
Green Heron - Green Cay Nature Center, Florida
March 11, 2009
I love colour and texture, which "pops" in good light. There is something very rewarding to making an "outside the box" type of image that you feel really "works". On my first solo-photography trip to Florida in 2009, I had incredible oppurtunities to expand my abilities as a photographer.
Eastern Phoebe - Point Pelee, Ontario
Mar 21, 2011
I had entered a slump in terms of photography, and this was an example of how old habits die hard. At the time, I knew I enjoyed this image - but wasn't entierly sure why. It was the beginning of a major shift in my goals when it came to photographing birds that would dramatically change the dynamics of my collection.
Early Spring Canada Goose Pair - Grimsby, Ontario
March 11, 2005
One of my older favourites, it shows how (simply) just being out in the field can produce great pictures. I honestly believe that I had no intentions whatsoever when creating this image, other than boredom and a lack of subject matter (for both photography and birding).
Male Cerulean Warbler - Point Pelee, Ontario
May 6, 2006
One of my first warbler photos that I was truly happy with, it happened to be one of the most spectacular species. This picture is the embodiment of spring magic at Point Pelee (for me) and perhaps meant more to my photographic "career" than I would like to admit.
Burrowing Owl, Sunset Blaze - Cape Coral, Florida
March 4, 2009
Colour. Honest, natural colour! It is easy to make a picture look like this in photoshop these days, but it feels great to create something unique without having to use it.
Kirtland's Warbler - Point Pelee, Ontario
May 15, 2008
The rarest songbird in North America just happened to be my 300th species I had "self-found" in Ontario. It was also at Pelee right in the middle of May with huge numbers of birders around to share my excitement with. Thankfully it was also very cooperative for photos.
Sandhill Crane - Boynton Beach, Florida
March 10, 2009
I almost touched this Sandhill Crane, until it sent an intimidating look my way and took a step to the side. After 500+ photos of the bird, I was getting ready to move on; when I noticed this striking pattern on the top of the birds head. I ended up staying much longer.
Greater Scaup - Burlington, Ontario
January 25, 2009
One of my favourite photography days, and an iconic image for me; it was COLD. Thousands of ducks to photograph, all to myself, and lots of great pictures
Cedar Waxwings - Burlington, Ontario
March 27, 2008
I'm drawn to photos with two birds in the same frame, but a photo often becomes a "favourite" when everything falls into place for the first time. Light, scene, perch, posture, action etc.
Juvenile Peregrine Falcon - Niagara Falls, Ontario
